Masks, Keytars, and Yes Ma'ams: "Imma Soldier" by Therine

I have recently made a new bffl with the lovely and talented Therine (pronounced There (like hair with a "th")- in). She calls herself a "blondie brownie ala Gaga," which TOTES suits her since she's indeed a blonde but sings her some SOOOOUUULLL... not to mention her crazy, Gaga-like theatrics.  THIS BITCH with her glittery mask (you know how I love sparkles) and her keytar (which MAKES you happy just looking at it), will have you screaming "Yes Ma'am," all night long, like Mr. Lionel Richie.

Her new single, "Imma Soldier," was digitally released yesterday, July 24th.  I'm.  In.  Love.  The song is reminiscent of some old school 90's R&B ala Destiny's Child or En Vouge.  Kinda in the vein of "I can do this on my own and will look fierce doing it," but forges forward with some sickening house beats, that of David Guetta (btw whoever produced... SICKENING sir or ma'am).  But what stands out the most to my glittertastic ears is the performance.  Ms. Therine might have a tendency to lean more towards simple lyrics and rhymes but that is why her music works.  The words get out of the way so that message and the feeling of the song can shine through without a lot of poetics.  Bravo, ma'am!

Pink, Cotton Candy, and Katy Perry

I SWEAR that after this post I'm going to focus on more indie and unknown artists (which reminds me, if you'd like for me to take a listen to some music you love and blog about it, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE email me at stevie.frick@gmail.com and I'd be more than happy to post something:) )

So, this past week, I saw Katy Perry's: Part of Me 3-D glasses, and pre-gaming with delish pink liquer and all:)  I LOVED it!  She is such an inspiration... not only that she kept going after her dream through all of the doors slammed in her face, but also that she kept her tour up through her whole Russell Brand trist:(  Dear Katy, I love you, but WHY WOULD YOU DO IT?!?!  Please, leave comments saying whether or not YOU thought that they would make it...

So, my review part is her newest video, "Wide Awake," which you can view here: http://www.vevo.com/watch/katy-perry/wide-awake/USCA31200061?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=watch&utm_campaign=wp_katyperry_wideawake.  First of all, the first time I heard the song on the Billboard Music Awards, I was in love.  I wasn't really a fan of "Part of Me," as I felt it was very rushed track much like Gaga's "Born This Way."  But this song kept Katy's great sense of a hook along with her witty lyrics and a LOT of heart (covered in glitter of course).  BUT THE VIDEO, MA'AM!  Oh Miss Perry, one of my favorite videos of hers ever.

The story goes that she is on tour and has a melancholy moment behind the scenes, and then she is in this Tim Burton fairy tale world.  Then her inner child comes out and kicks some ass so that Katy realizes who she is.  I love that this video keeps her quirky sense of humor in tact, but at the same time shows her darker more mature side.  Bravo, ma'am, bravo:)

Until next time,
SPARKLY KISSES,
Stevie

THE BIEBS!!!

I know, I know... this blog is supposed to be dedicated to DIVAS (aka women) and dance music... but... there are SO many lesbatarians who look like Justin Bieber AND I'm PRETTY sure that he is the most done celeb for drag kings since Boy George! (lol)  Anyhoo, for those of you who have not bought this album, DO SO IMMEDIATELY!  For those of you who haven't heard any of the songs, "Boyfriend" has been BLOWING UP the radio waves.  When I first heard it, I thought, "Ooo, a touch of Justin Timberlake, but with some newer beats, yes MA'AM!  Who is this?"  And then the DJ said, "And that was Justin Bieber with 'Boyfriend.'"  My heart sank a little, but luckily, I'm not a prideful boy, and so I brushed it all off and conceded that I was now a "Belieber."

NOW, ladies and gents, this is a crazy awesome album!  I will NEVER make fun of BET for nominating the Biebs for awards again.  He is CERTAINLY the next coming of Justin Timberlake, and hopefully he won't forgo his amazing music making talents for crappy movies like "Friends with Benefits" or was he in "No Strings Attached?"  Eh, it was a movie about silly relationships with one of the girls from Black Swan.

Currently listening to "All Around the World" (yes I've listened to the ENTIRE album) but I am STUCK on this track!  This album is crazy well produced.  When I listen all I want to do is get my "crunk on;)"  But going to another track, another one of my faves is "Die in Your Arms."  Oooo chile, he's taking it back to some good ole SOUL music.  He is giving me MOTOWN REALNESS!  And his voice?  Gasp, he no longer sounds like one of the girls from Toddlers and Tiaras.

A friend of mine the other day said that there are a lot of disgustingly talent people out there right now, but no geniuses, like Michael Jackson (a game changer who lived on another level).  For example (don't hate me) but Beyonce is DISGUSTINGLY talented, but a game changing genius... not really.  Justin Bieber just might be this generation's genius.  I'm in love... now just to get him to fall for me... (evil laugh).

You can buy Justin Bieber's album Believe on ITunes, or at wherever CDs and music are sold.

90's REALNESS from Ms. Gordon

Hello all of you fun loving kids,

I've decided to start my own blog talking about all of the great music that I find.  I currently live in Nashville, TN which is not only the home to country and Christian music (not that I have a problem with either... I am a good little boy who loves him some Jesus, and I happen to LOVE LOVE LOVE me some Dolly), but also to the most pretentious music in the world.  I love music that has a great beat, fabulous singing, and catchy melodies that get stuck in your head forever and ever AAAAAMEN!  Now, normally I love a good diva, but I listen to the divos as well;)  And my first DIVA to LOVE is Ms. Wynter Gordon.  HONEY!  Such a voice and that hair!  Wish I could pull off a fro (LOLs)!  Please check out her latest video, I found on another great blog here: http://www.electrocutieblog.com/
But check out the video here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RV_Lx8mxhjY
She is giving me 90's diva REALNESS!

PS, anyone else CRAZAY excited for Rupal's Drag U tonight???
